Dr. Umapathy Sundaram, known by colleagues as Uma, is a board-certified gastroenterologist, physician-scientist, and academic leader at Marshall University. He serves as Senior Advisor to the President for Veterans Affairs and Translational Sciences, where he integrates clinical care, federally funded research, and institutional strategy to advance patient outcomes and veterans’ health.

Trained in bioengineering at Johns Hopkins University and medicine at the University of Toledo, Dr. Sundaram completed advanced clinical and research training at the University of Michigan and Yale University.
